Target Participants
We welcome teachers and other adults from educational organizations who are involved in any types of formal and informal teaching. However, this course is open to everybody, particularly those who find pleasure in observing their environment, taking photos, writing about their day-to-day experiences, and are interested in learning more about artistic approaches to reflect on their current interests.
Course Description
In the context of global environmental challenges and the Sustainable Development Goals, schools play a fundamental role in promoting ecological awareness and responsible citizenship. This course supports teachers in transforming outdoor spaces into powerful learning environments through structured Environmental Education pathways supported by digital tools.
This is a highly practical and experiential course. Participants will actively engage in outdoor activities in natural and urban environments, experiencing and designing real Environmental Education routes.
Objectives
- To frame Outdoor Environmental Education within the broader context of nature conservation and sustainable development;
- To explore interdisciplinary approaches to Outdoor Education across different subject areas;
- To develop skills in researching and selecting high-quality digital educational resources;
- To use digital tools for mapping, planning, documenting, and assessing environmental pathways;
- To design structured and adaptable Environmental Education routes ready for implementation in schools.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
- Understand the pedagogical foundations of Outdoor Environmental Education;
- Integrate sustainability principles into curriculum planning;
- Select and apply digital tools to support outdoor learning activities;
- Plan, organise and evaluate Environmental Education pathways;
- Facilitate meaningful outdoor learning experiences that foster critical thinking and environmental responsibility.
Methodology
The course follows an experiential and collaborative methodology, combining:
- Theoretical input sessions;
- Practical workshops;
- Digital tool training;
- Group project work;
- Field-based outdoor activities;
- Reflection and peer sharing.
Participants will not only learn about Outdoor Education — they will experience it firsthand through structured outdoor fieldwork.
